Dechoker Is Among Finalists for 2019 Innovation Excellence Award

Organizers of the 2019 Dementia, Care & Nursing Home Expo named Dechoker a finalist for the Innovation Excellence Award ahead of this month’s event in the United Kingdom. The award recognizes innovative and cutting-edge products that are making a difference in care and nursing homes around the world. The “Innovation Excellence” category specifically acknowledges “products and services that have noticeably improved the quality of care in the industry.”

“It is a true honor to receive this nomination,” said Dechoker inventor and president, Alan Carver, “To date, we have received reports of 34 lives saved by the Dechoker, with many of these choking emergencies happening in care homes and involving the elderly. Our mission is to put an end to preventable choking tragedies and this recognition brings us one step closer to achieving that goal. The Dechoker team offers our heartfelt congratulations to all of the finalists.”

Making an Impact

Each year, an estimated 200 people living in care and nursing homes die from choking-related incidents across the UK. The impacts of these deaths often extend beyond the devastating emotional harm to relatives. Many care providers also face fines, inspections, police investigators, and damage to their reputation. Thanks to the Dechoker, care home management and staff have peace of mind in knowing help is always available should a choking emergency arise.

The Dementia, Care, & Nursing Home Expo, which is in association with Care Home Professional, will be held on March 26 and 27 at NEC, Birmingham, which is billed as “the UK’s number one venue for shows, exhibitions, meetings, and events.” Dechoker is proud to be amongst this year’s guest speakers. Dechoker’s talk, “Choking — The Silent Killer in the Adult Care Sector” is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th at 2:25 p.m. in the Training Zone. It will shine an important spotlight on what can be done to ease choking risks in care homes. Dechoker will be located at stand D180 at this year’s expo.
